High impact information on Mst84Db

The Drosophila Mst ortholog, hippo, restricts growth and cell proliferation and promotes apoptosis [1].
While high level transcription and negative translational control of Mst84Da is mediated by a short gene segment of 205 nt (-152/+53), Mst84Db expression is controlled by a number of distinct regulatory elements with different effects that all reside within the gene itself [2].
Coexpression of Mst and hSav led to phosphorylation of hSav and also increased its abundance [3].
This, together with the ability of Mst2 to rescue hippo mutant phenotypes, argues that Mst/Hippo proteins are tumor suppressors [4].

We report here on the dissection of the regulatory regions for two members of the gene family, Mst84Da and Mst84Db [2].
