Expression of ACS6(DDD), a gain-of-function ACS6 mutant that mimics the phosphorylated form of ACS6, confers constitutive ethylene production and ethylene-induced phenotypes [1].
This senescence phenotype was preceded by a massive switch in gene expression in which photosynthetic genes were down-regulated, whereas many senescence-associated genes (SAGs) and the 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) synthase gene ACS6 involved in ethylene synthesis were up-regulated [2].
The identification and characterization of ACS6 now provides us with a tool to better understand the involvement of ethylene produced in response to external stimuli as well as during plant growth and development [3].

Biological context of ACS6

Experiments with multiple touch treatments showed that a saturation in gene expression was obtained with one touch treatment and subsequent touch stimulations were progressively less effective in promoting ACS6 expression [3].

Associations of ACS6 with chemical compounds

Additional characterization of ACS6 gene expression indicated that the gene is also induced by wounding, and by treatment with LiCl, NaCl, CuCl2, auxin, cycloheximide (CHX), aminooxyacetic acid (AOA) and ethylene [3].
