Disease relevance of rbn

The properties of RNase BN clearly distinguish this enzyme from other known E. coli exoribonucleases [1].
RNase BN, a tRNA-processing enzyme previously shown to be required for the 3'-maturation of certain bacteriophage T4-encoded tRNAs, was overexpressed and purified to near homogeneity from Escherichia coli [2].
Assay of subclones derived from lambda phage 543 of the Kohara library, which encompasses this region of the chromosome, for elevated RNase BN activity identified o290, a previously reported open reading frame, as the gene encoding RNase BN [3].

High impact information on rbn

A new ribonuclease, RNase BN, has been identified and partially purified from a strain of Escherichia coli lacking RNase II and RNase D by using the artificial tRNA precursor tRNA-C-[14C]U as substrate [1].
These data indicate that RNase BN has an extremely narrow substrate specificity [2].
Interruption of this gene with a Kan(r) cassette and introduction into the chromosome eliminated cellular RNase BN activity but had no effect on cell growth [3].
