The Economics of PillCam.
This article discusses the use of video capsule endoscopy for diagnosing disease and disorders of the small intestine and esophagus. The only such devices currently approved by the Food and Drug Administration are the PillCam SB and the PillCam ESO (Given Imaging Limited, Yoqueam, Israel), respectively. The few cost-effectiveness assessments performed suggest that PillCam compares favorably with traditional diagnostic methods in Crohn's disease and in screening for complications of gastroesophageal reflux disorder and for esophageal varices. Data are limited, however, and accurate assessment must await more robust studies.[1]References
