Pelvic inflammatory disease is not a reportable condition in the United States. Based on data extracted from the Hospital Discharge Survey conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics, this article presents estimates of the frequency and distribution of PID in short-stay hospitals from 1970 through 1975.[1]
