Caloric restriction profoundly inhibits liver tumor formation after initiation by 6-nitrochrysene in male mice.

Caloric restriction (CR) inhibited strongly the incidence of chemically-induced tumors in the neonatal B6C3F1 mouse tumorigenicity bioassay, when begun 3 months after treatment with the potent carcinogen 6-nitrochrysene. These data indicate that CR can have a profound inhibitory effect on tumor development even long after metabolic activation and DNA repair have occurred.[1]
