Is there a difference in dental caries between myopic and nonmyopic children?

A number of authors have reported that myopia is associated with high amounts of dental caries. Collagen is a major constituent of dentine and it is possible that the association between myopia and dental caries is a sign of a common collagen defect. Dental caries was quantified in an unselected sample of 9-year-old Hong Kong Chinese children, of whom 22 were subsequently classified as myopic and 80 as nonmyopic. Dental and refractive examinations were carried out independently of each other. No association was found between the presence of dental caries and the refractive state of the eye.[1]
