The effect of papaverine on synaptosomal membrane potential.

The authors studied the effect of graded concentrations of papaverine on membrane potential in isolated synaptosomes from pig brain by fluorescence. The indicator dye for membrane potential is rhodamine 6G (Rh6G). The membrane voltage is determined at both high (127.2) and low (30 mM) final sodium (Na+) concentrations. The results demonstrate a hyperpolarizing action of papaverine directly proportional to papaverine concentration.[1]
