Disease relevance of SOMATOSTATIN

This metaanalysis confirms that somatostatin analog therapy aimed at achieving stringent control of serum GH/IGF-I concentrations in patients with acromegaly is associated with significant positive effects on morphological and functional hemodynamic parameters [1].
We demonstrate that somatostatin analog treatment provokes the pathological regression of type I gastric carcinoids [2].

These results show that somatostatin has important effects on social behavior [3].

Associations of SOMATOSTATIN with other chemical compounds

Nodules were found in 29 of 43 patients (67%) on somatostatin analog therapy: 16 of 22 patients on lanreotide Autogel, five of 12 patients on octreotide LAR only, and eight of nine patients who had been treated with both somatostatin analogs [4].
Integrated pituitary cell ACTH regulation is determined both by phasic SRIF action, as well as by tonic constitutive SST activity, independently of SRIF [5].
