Sterol regulation of fatty acid synthase promoter. Coordinate feedback regulation of two major lipid pathways [1].
The gene encoding fatty acid synthase, the essential multi-functional enzyme of fatty acid biosynthesis, is shown to be regulated by cellular sterol levels similar to genes that encode important proteins of cholesterol metabolism [1].
None of the soluble protein fractions is able to relieve the inhibition of FAS by phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride [2].
3. The activity of succinic dehydrogenase, a mitochondrial enzyme, was decreased by the deficiency, but the activities of fumarase, sn-glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, alcohol dehydrogenase, sn-glycerol-3-phosphate oxidase and fatty acid synthetase were unaffected [3].
Dietary ethanol inhibited FAS and repressed the accumulation of TG in ADH-deficient larvae, suggesting that the levels of these factors may be subject to a complex feedback control [4].
