Here, we show that armi is required for RNAi. armi mutant male germ cells fail to silence Stellate, a gene regulated endogenously by RNAi, and lysates from armi mutant ovaries are defective for RNAi in vitro [1].
Armitage forms an asymmetric network associated with the polarized microtubule cytoskeleton and is concentrated with translationally silent oskar mRNA in the oocyte [2].
A novel protein required for RNA interference in Drosophila, Armitage, was identified in a screen for genes involved in embryonic axis formation [3].
