Disease relevance of MFNG

High impact information on MFNG

  • We have found that EWS/FLI1 and structurally related fusion proteins upregulate manic fringe (MFNG), a recently described member of the Fringe gene family instrumental in somatic development [1].
  • MFNG is also expressed in human tumour-derived cell lines expressing EWS/FLI1 [1].
  • Furthermore, ectopic Mfng expression induces the expression of basic helix-loop-helix gene, Ngn3, and two zinc finger genes, cMyt1 and cMyt3 [2].
  • Using chicken embryonic endoderm as an assaying system, we found that ectopic Mfng expression is sufficient to induce endodermal cells to differentiate towards an endocrine fate [2].
  • Mapping of the human Lunatic Fringe (LFNG) gene to 7p22 and Manic Fringe (MFNG) to 22q12 [3].
