In Arabidopsis, except for AGO1, AGO4 and AGO7, the roles of seven other AGOs in gene silencing are not known [1].
We show that the juvenile-to-adult phase transition is normally suppressed by TAS3 ta-siRNAs, in an ARGONAUTE7-dependent manner, through negative regulation of ARF3 mRNA [2].
The Arabidopsis heterochronic gene ZIPPY is an ARGONAUTE family member [3].
We show that plants carrying rdr6, suppressor of gene silencing3 (sgs3) or zippy (zip, also called ago7) in combination with as1 or as2 demonstrate severe morphological defects, and the double mutant plants are generally similar to one another [4].

Biological context of AGO7

In contrast to Arabidopsis ARGONAUTE1, ZIP has no significant role in transgene silencing; its primary function is in the regulation of developmental timing [3].
