High impact information on Sperm Midpiece

We recently discovered that in rat spermatids, kinesin light chain KLC3 can associate with outer dense fibers, major sperm tail components, and accumulates in the sperm midpiece [1].
The objective of this study was to compare the MSPs to a previously identified 85-kDa complex (ODF/CP85) that is a component of the outer dense fibers of the sperm midpiece and the segmented columns of the connecting piece [2].
Transmission electron microscopy and immunogold labeling showed that PH-20 of acrosome-intact human sperm was located on the plasma membrane over the entire head but not on the sperm midpiece and tail [3].
Bull sperm midpiece lesions induced by gossypol were ultrastructurally similar to those observed in other, nonruminant, species [4].
Moreover, the absence of formazan deposits in various parts of the sperm midpiece was also noted [5].

Associations of Sperm Midpiece with chemical compounds

Masking of estrogen and melatonin receptors on the sperm midpiece by SA has been demonstrated [6].
