Cervical paravertebral leiomyosarcoma mimicking a nerve sheath tumor.

A rare case of leiomyosarcoma attached to the C6 nerve root with extension through the intervertebral foramen into the spinal canal is described. Clinically and at the time of frozen section, this was considered to be a nerve sheath tumor. A definitive histologic diagnosis was made on the basis of the ultrastructural features of the tumor. Complete remission was achieved following extensive surgical removal and postoperative radiotherapy. The possible origin of this neoplasm is discussed.[1]
