Pituitary-gonadal function in a female hermaphrodite with congenital adrenal hyperplasia.

A case of a 31-year-old female hermaphrodite with congenital adrenal hyperplasia is reported and some endocrinological studies are presented. After the administration of dexamethasone, the elevated levels of serum testosterone were suppressed, while the lower levels of serum luteinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone were elevated. Since the virilization was too developed to change the sex role, the patient remained as a male subject without cortisol replacement therapy and underwent a plastic operation to construct the penile urethra.[1]
