The conversion of 8 into ketone 12 was accomplished in four steps (O-alkylation with ethyl bromoacetate, dehydrogenation, alkaline hydrolysis and cyclization with phosponate ester) [1].
The syntheses of the triesters formed between ethyl bromoacetate and hexahomotrioxacalix[3]naphthalene 8, and its tert-butyl analogue 11, are described [2].
These compounds were prepared by cyclization of the new 4-(N-substituted thiocarbamoylhydrazono)-2,6-di-tert-butyl-2,5-cyclohexadien- 1-ones with phenacyl bromides, ethyl alpha-chloroacetoacetate and ethyl bromoacetate, respectively [3].
Alkylation of 4-hydroxycinnolines using ethyl bromoacetate resulted in N2-substituted acetic acids [4].

Associations of Ethyl bromacetate with other chemical compounds

One method involved the direct alkylation with ethyl bromoacetate of 1,5-dihydro-2H-pyrrol-2-one (III b), obtained for the first time in pure form by cyclization of 4-amino-3-hydroxybutyric acid (GABOB) [5].
