Disease relevance of ompF

micF RNA post-transcriptionally regulates Escherichia coli outer membrane protein F (OmpF), in response to temperature increase and other environmental stress conditions, by binding to ompF mRNA and destabilizing the message [1].
A Salmonella typhimurium strain harboring stable mutations in both ompC and ompF was constructed from the mouse-virulent strain S. typhimurium SL1344 [2].

In addition, Northern analyses indicate that micF RNA and ompF mRNA levels are thermally regulated in several related species in a manner similar to the thermoregulation in Escherichia coli [1].
Outer membrane porin genes of Salmonella typhimurium, including ompC, ompF, and tppB, are regulated by the products of ompB, a two-component regulatory locus encoding OmpR and EnvZ [3].
Only about one third of the micF RNA sequence binds the target ompF mRNA [4].
