In Salmonella typhimurium, the tRNA(m1G37)methyltransferase (the product of the trmD gene) catalyzes the formation of m1G37, which is present adjacent and 3' of the anticodon (position 37) in seven tRNA species, two of which are tRNA(Pro)CGG and tRN(Pro)GGG [1].

The mutation (trmD3) responsible for this methylation deficiency is in the structural gene (trmD) for the tRNA(m1G37)methyltransferase [2].
The trmD gene encodes the tRNA(m1G37)methyltransferase, which methylates guanosine (G) to 1-methylguanosine (m1G) at position 37 of tRNAs that read CUN (leucine), CCN (proline), and CGG (arginine) codons [3].
