High impact information on trt-1

Such outlying short telomeres were not observed in mrt-2 mutants displaying progressive telomere loss very similar to trt-1 mutants [1].
Strikingly, trt-1 mutant animals displayed a high frequency of telomeres with many fewer repeats than average [1].
These findings illustrate effects of telomere dysfunction in C. elegans mutants lacking the catalytic subunit of telomerase, trt-1 [2].
Mutants of trt-1, the Caenorhabditis elegans telomerase reverse transcriptase, reproduce normally for several generations but eventually become sterile as a consequence of telomere erosion and end-to-end chromosome fusions [2].
Telomere erosion and uncapping do not cause an increase in apoptosis in the germlines of trt-1 mutants [2].

Biological context of trt-1

Using PCR analysis to measure the length of individual telomere repeat tracks on the left arm of chromosome V we observed that trt-1 mutants lost approximately 125bp of telomeric DNA per generation [1].
