Three of the family members (Tim-1, Tim-3, and Tim-4) are conserved between mouse and man [1].
In situ hybridization of spleen sections demonstrated SMUCKLER expression by stromal cells predominantly in the marginal zone and to a lesser extent throughout the white pulp [2].
Tim-4, which is preferentially expressed on mature dendritic cells, is the ligand for Tim-1 [3].

Anatomical context of Timd4

These data suggest that the TIM-1-TIM-4 interaction is involved in regulating T cell proliferation [4].
Here we show that TIM-4, which is expressed by antigen-presenting cells, is the ligand for TIM-1 [4].
