Disease relevance of LGB

  • METHODS: Serum antibody levels against six cow's milk proteins, alpha-casein, alpha-lactalbumin (LA), beta-lactoglobulin A (LGA), beta-lactoglobulin B (LGB), bovine serum albumin (BSA), and whole milk powder (MP) were determined before and after (mean, 24 months) proctocolectomy in 15 patients with ulcerative colitis [1].

High impact information on LGB

  • The major milk proteins consist of the four caseins, alpha s1 (CASAS1), alpha s2 (CASAS2), beta (CASB), and kappa (CASK), as well as the two major whey proteins, alpha-lactalbumin (LALBA) and beta-lactoglobulin (LGB) [2].
  • In addition, a biallelic polymorphism in the beta-lactoglobulin gene (LGB) has been genetically positioned relative to the microsatellite markers [3].
  • With a combination of non-isotopic in situ hybridization and simultaneous fluorescent R-banding, this study presents the first map of the short arm of sheep Chromosome (Chr) 3 and of the homoeologous cattle and goat Chrs 11 with two DNA sequences: the beta lactoglobulin gene (LGB) and an immunoglobulin M heavy chain-like sequence (IGHML) [4].
