The pac gene encoding penicillin acylase (PAC) was overexpressed under the regulation of the araB promoter (ParaB, also known as PBAD) in Escherichia coli (E. coli) [1].

The 5' end of the L-ribulokinase gene was fused to a single copy of a synthetic gene encoding cecropin A [2].
Molecular analysis of this strain, including DNA microarrays, revealed that the crucial prerequisite for efficient utilization of L-arabinose is a lowered activity of L-ribulokinase [3].
