Disease relevance of ATFUC1

Pea plants had endogenous alpha-L-fucosidase activity, but the enzyme was not recognised by an antibody produced against recombinant FUC1 protein expressed in E. coli [1].

High impact information on ATFUC1

The alpha-L-fucosidase encoded by AtFXG1 was active against the oligosaccharides from xyloglucan XXFG as well as against 2'-fucosyl-lactitol but not against p-nitrophenyl-alpha-L-fucopyranoside [2].
Moreover, an alpha-L-fucosidase with similar substrate specificity was purified from cabbage (Brassica oleracea) leaves to render a single band on SDS-PAGE [2].
An alpha-L-fucosidase purified from pea (Pisum sativum L. cv Alaska) epicotyl was previously described as a cell wall enzyme of 20 kDa that hydrolyses terminal alpha-L-fucosidic linkages from oligosaccharide fragments of xyloglucan. cDNA and genomic copies were further isolated and sequenced [1].

Regulatory relationships of ATFUC1

Both AtFXG1 and ATFUC1 were heterologously expressed in Pichia pastoris cells and the alpha-L-fucosidase activities secreted to the culture medium [2].
