Disease relevance of MKP1

High impact information on MKP1

  • The genetic and biochemical data presented here imply a central role for a MAP kinase cascade in genotoxic stress signaling in plants and indicate AtMKP1 to be a crucial regulator of the MAP kinase activity in vivo, determining the outcome of the cellular reaction and the level of genotoxic resistance [2].
  • The results indicate involvement of MKP1 in repressive action on gene expression of more general stress response pathways, similar to those activated by pathogen attack, while NADPH oxidase is involved in quantitative (rather than absolute) regulation of more UV-B-specific genes [3].
  • Both NADPH oxidase mutants and the mkp1 mutant phenotypically responded to UV-B by growth retardation [3].
