Disease relevance of VCY

In this study, VCY protein was expressed in E. coli in the form of glutathione-S-transferase (GST) fusion protein [1].
On the basis of their localization, these genes could be candidate for the gonadoblastoma locus (TTY1, TTY2) and for the control growth locus (VCY) [2].

High impact information on VCY

Array-CGH with DNA of an XLI patient with MR and an inherited t(X;Y)(p22.31;q11.2) showed an Xpter deletion of 8.0 Mb resulting in the deletion of all four VCX genes and duplication of both VCY homologs [3].
In addition, the colocalization for VCY and VCX-8r in COS7 cells was also observed [1].
In the testis seminiferous epithelium, VCY proteins were highly expressed in nuclei of germ cells [1].
Using propidium iodide staining and green fluorescent protein (GFP) tag technologies, VCY and VCX-8r proteins were mainly localized in the nucleoli of COS7 cells [1].
On the other hand, these patients retain some copies of TTYI and TTY2 genes, due to the presence of copies in Yp, and of VCY, which has homologous copies on the X chromosome [2].

Biological context of VCY

Except for VCY, all other loci possess two or more pseudogenes on the Y chromosome [4].

Analytical, diagnostic and therapeutic context of VCY

With the purified fusion protein as antigen, the anti-GST-VCY antibody was generated and the localization of VCY protein in human testis was determined by immunohistochemistry [1].
