Cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) is a phase I detoxification enzyme, which is induced by chronic alcohol consumption [1].

Analysis of phase I detoxification genes revealed that CYP1A2 and CYP3A11 were up-regulated in wild-type mice but down-regulated in RXRalpha-deficient mice after APAP administration [2].
Fxr(-/-) mice adapt to biliary obstruction by enhanced phase I detoxification and renal elimination of bile acids [3].
These effects are mediated by the aryl hydrocarbon receptor, a ligand-activated transcription factor well known for its regulatory activity on the expression of several phase I detoxification cytochrome P450 genes [4].
