Disease relevance of MVD

  • MVD was significantly higher in the cases of RAEB and RAEB-t as compared to the cases of RA [1].
  • Microvascular density and VEGF protein in the recurrence group and recurrence-free group were detected by the immunohistochemistry avidin-biotin-peroxidase method and analyzed quantitatively through computer-assisted microscopy to evaluate the correlation of MVD and VEGF with prognosis of craniopharyngiomas [2].
  • When the subcellular distribution of MPD in mouse melanoma (B16F10) cells was examined by cell fractionation, MPD was detected in the cytosol of B16F10 cells, but not in the peroxisomes [3].
  • Rofecoxib-treated metastases had a 29% decrease in MVD (mean, 25.1 [SEM, 2.7] per hpf) compared with placebo-treated tissue (32.5 [SEM, 4.5] per hpf; P = 0.15) [4].
  • There was a significant correlation between tumor hypoxia and ICD (P < 0.005) but not MVD (P = 0.41) [5].

Psychiatry related information on MVD

  • Cutaneous sensory thresholds from skin overlying masseter and forearm in MPD patients and controls [6].
  • The overall MPD was independently associated with CRP (r = 0.25, p = 0.0008), physical activity (r = 0.19, p = 0.009), triglycerides (r = -0.18, p = 0.02) and body mass index (r = 0.15, p = 0.04) [7].
  • BACKGROUND: Many patients who have been told they have Multiple Personality/Dissociative Identity Disorder (MPD/DID) seem to have deteriorated clinically after being so diagnosed [8].
  • We report here the results of a survey of suicide attempts in patients diagnosed as having MPD and a comparison group hospitalized with a mood disorder [8].
  • Results indicate that patients with MPD experience significantly higher scores for five specific dissociative symptoms than patients with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder [9].

High impact information on MVD

Chemical compound and disease context of MVD

  • The treatment of trigeminal neuralgia by the minor percutaneous invasive procedures of selective thermal rhizotomy, glycerol injection, and balloon compression in the middle cranial fossa are compared with the open operations of compression in the middle fossa and MVD in the posterior fossa [14].
  • Here, we present the case of a patient, with MPD/MDS, and eosinophilia, carrying a translocation t(5;12)(q33;p13) who achieved a complete remission following treatment with STI571, 400 mg daily. At the time of writing he still remains in complete remission with an excellent performance status [15].
  • A recently recognized subgroup of myeloproliferative disorders/myelodysplastic syndromes (MPD/MDS) has a t(5;12)(q33;p13) with the activation of the gene for PDGFBR which encodes a receptor tyrosine kinase [15].

Biological context of MVD

  • MPD is known to furnish prenyl groups required for prenylation, protein modification that is essential for the activity of many proteins including p21(Ras) (Ras) [16].
  • Mortalin-MPD (mevalonate pyrophosphate decarboxylase) interactions and their role in control of cellular proliferation [16].
  • Results (mean +/- S.D.) are expressed as percentage of heat-induced maximal vasodilatation (%MVD) [17].
  • Its IC50 values were 40 microM and 13.5 microM in the GPI and MVD assays, respectively [18].
  • Neighbor-joining analysis of PIII-SVMP and RGD/MVD disintegrin-coding DNA sequences showed that these groups of genes separate into separate clades [19].

Anatomical context of MVD

  • RESULTS: A human hormone-refractory PCa (HRPC) and C4-2 androgen-independent PCa cell line showed significantly higher expression of VEGF, MVD, and AT1R than did human androgen-dependent PCa and an LNCaP androgen-dependent PCa cell line [20].
  • We conclude that MVD (particularly MVD-B) is a very good predictor for the complete response in patients of MM and should be done routinely on bone marrow biopsies [21].
  • Recently, other groups reported that MPD is mostly located in the peroxisomes [3].
  • From these results, it indicated that MPD was predominantly located in the cytosol and did not exist in the peroxisomes of B16F10 cells [3].
  • OBJECTIVES: We sought to assess survival among patients with diabetes and multivessel coronary artery disease (MVD) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and after coronary artery bypass grafting surgery (CABG) [22].

Associations of MVD with chemical compounds

  • Among the new derivatives compound 7 which carries a Tyr-D-Ala-Gly-Phe opioid message sequence showed good opioid affinity (1 nM at both delta and mu opioid receptors) and bioactivity (34.9 nM in MVD and 42 nM in GPI/LMMP bioassays) [23].
  • In permeabilized B16F10 cells treated with digitonin, which lack cytosolic enzymes, 80% and 20% of MPD, 75% and 25% of lactate dehydrogenase, or 2% and 98% of catalase, existed in the medium and in the cell, respectively [3].
  • However, the wild-type sterol content was not fully restored suggesting that the A. thaliana MVD activity may not be optimal in yeast [24].
  • Also assessed were the maximum vessel density (MVD-using Factor VIII polyclonal antisera), the proliferation rate (using Ki-67 antisera), node status, tumour size, histologic and nuclear grade, mitotic rate, and p53 and c-erbB-2 oncoproteins [25].
  • 4. In MVD-patients atrial beta-adrenoceptor density (55.5 +/- 8.7 fmol ICYP bound mg-1 protein, n = 7) was significantly lower (P less than 0.05) than in CAD-patients; beta 1:beta 2-adrenoceptor ratio, however, was not changed (67:33%) [26].

Other interactions of MVD

  • These were rescued by co-expression of MPD from an exogenous promoter demonstrating a functional link between mot-2, MPD, and Ras [16].
  • Tumors with high nuclear maspin expression had lower mean MVD than those with low or negative expression [27].
  • This inhibition is associated with decreasing CCL2 protein levels, and MVD and MMP-9 expression in xenograft tumors [28].
  • The mean intratumoral microvessel density (MVD index) was higher for the cases with GSTM1 wild-type genotype in comparison with the cases with the GSTM1-null genotype (89.6 +/- 10.0 vs. 60.9 +/- 6.7; P = 0.022) [29].
  • CONCLUSIONS: Stratification of patients undergoing radical radiotherapy using the CA9/MVD model may be useful for the individualization of therapeutic strategies combining antiangiogenesis and hypoxia targeting with radiotherapy [30].

Analytical, diagnostic and therapeutic context of MVD

  • BACKGROUND: The Bypass Angioplasty Revascularization Investigation (BARI) demonstrated that diabetics with MVD survive longer after initial CABG than after initial PCI [22].
  • Multivariate analysis and Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that MVD alone had significant predictive power for radiosensitivity in T1 and T2 stage LSCCs after radiotherapy (P = 0.012, 0.0003, respectively) [31].
  • CONCLUSIONS: In this study, tumor angiogenesis measured by MVD was associated with a dismal pathologic appearance and a negative clinical prognosis in PC after radical prostatectomy [32].
  • A two-hybrid assay was also performed to evaluate homodimer formation of the A. thaliana MVD and heterodimer formation between the plant and yeast heterologous enzymes [24].
  • The sequence of the genomic region of A. thaliana MVD was also obtained and Southern blot analysis on genomic DNA showed that A. thaliana could have at least one homologous MVD gene [24].
