Disease relevance of AIDS-097025

Thirty patients with measurable metastatic colorectal carcinoma who had not received prior systemic therapy for advanced disease were treated with trimetrexate, a methotrexate analog [1].
A new methotrexate analog, 10-ethyl-10-deaza-aminopterin (10-EdAM), was found to induce a particular form of skin toxicity different than the skin rash reported to result from methotrexate [2].
We describe a patient with transitional cell carcinoma of the renal pelvis who developed respiratory dysfunction and an abnormal chest x-ray with diffuse interstitial opacities while on chemotherapy with piritrexim, a methotrexate analog [3].
