Seven phenylethanoids from the stems of Cistanche deserticola, viz. isoacteoside, tubuloside B, acteoside, 2'-O-acetylacteoside, echinacoside, cistanoside A and tubuloside A, were tested for their effect on NO radical generation by activated murine macrophages [1].
Luteolin and isoacteoside inhibited the xanthine oxidase (XO, EC 1.2.3.2) with the IC50 values at 7.83 and 45.48 microM, respectively [2].
The antioxidant activities of acteoside, isoacteoside, and ligupurpuroside A were comparable to that observed for a green tea antioxidant, (-)-epicatechin gallate [3].
A new phenylpropanoid glycoside, pedicularioside A, and five known glycosides, acteoside, isoacteoside, decaffeoylacteoside, echinacoside and 8-acetylharpagide, were isolated from whole plants of Pedicularis striata [4].
Separation guided by PS cell line inhibition led to isolation of cytotoxic compounds that were identified as the known glycosides acteoside [1] (ED50 2.6 micrograms/ml) and isoacteoside [2] (ED50 10 micrograms/ml) [5].
