In the 4 affected ones, maternal urinary tetrahydro-11-deoxycortisol (THS) excretion was high during the first trimester [0.3-2.2 mg/day (1.1-7.7 mumol/day)] and rose further during the third trimester [0.5-3.5 mg/day (1.8-12.3 mumol/day)] compared to urinary THS excretion in 20 normal pregnancies of the same gestational age (P less than 0.01) [1].
Plasma ACTH, cortisol, and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate levels and urinary cortisol, 17-ketosteroid, and tetrahydro-11-deoxycortisol excretion were determined periodically during the treatment period [2].
Urinary tetrahydro-11-deoxycortisol [pregnane-3alpha, 17alpha, 21-triol-20-one (THS)] was abnormally elevated in the first, second, and third trimesters (maximal values, 3.5 and 0.9 mg/24 h, respectively) but was undetectable after delivery in these mothers, in 15 normal pregnancies (10--40 weeks of gestation), and in 6 heterozygote parents [3].

11 beta-Hydroxylase deficiency was diagnosed on the basis of increased 11-deoxycortisol and deoxycorticosterone in plasma and tetrahydro-11-deoxycortisol and deoxycorticosterone in urine, particularly after ACTH administration [4].
RA patients had lower tetrahydrocortisone (P less than .001) and tetrahydro-11-deoxycortisol (P less than .01) excretion at baseline, but not during ACTH- or metyrapone-stimulation, than control subjects [5].
