High impact information on Glutamic acid diethyl ester

  • APB and HA-966 reduced the amplitude of the extracellular EPSP recorded during stimulation of the perforant path fibers, but APP and GDEE were without effect [1].
  • Glutamic acid diethyl ester (GDEE) (400 micrograms), injected into the dorsal hippocampus, had qualitative effects similar to those obtained with scopolamine, but, quantitatively, they were less pronounced [2].
  • Glutamic acid diethyl ester (GDEE) and D,L-alpha-aminoadipate (alpha-AA) were more effective (IC50, 0.2-0.8 mM) and showed differential effects in their capacity to displace KA bound to the various subcellular fractions [3].
  • Thus, GDEE only displaced 40-60% of the KA bound by SPM or mitochondria and did not prevent the binding of KA to microsomes. alpha-AA, on the other hand, was more effective in preventing the binding of KA at high concentrations and displaced between 80 and 100% of the drug [3].
  • The vagal induced sympathoinhibitory response was restored after NTS microinjections of GDEE by increasing the intensity of the vagal stimulus, or by directly stimulating the NTS injection site, suggesting that the impairment in baroreceptor function seen with this L-glu antagonist was independent of mechanical or local anesthetic effects [4].
