Consistently, the nuclear enrichment of proteasome also fails in rhp6 and ubr1 null mutants [1].
Unexpectedly, cloning and sequencing identified the gene as the previously isolated DNA repair gene rhp6 [2].
A novel function of the DNA repair gene rhp6 in mating-type silencing by chromatin remodeling in fission yeast [2].
These observations suggest that the rhp6 gene product, a ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme required for DNA damage repair, promotes entry to mitosis in response to caffeine treatment [3].
