BIG: a calossin-like protein required for polar auxin transport in Arabidopsis [1].
BIG is very similar to the Drosophila gene Calossin/Pushover, a member of a gene family also present in Caenorhabditis elegans and human genomes [1].
Two other calmodulin-binding proteins included Pollux, a protein with similarity to a portion of a yeast Rab GTPase activating protein, and Calossin, an enormous protein of unknown function conserved throughout animal phylogeny [2].
We describe the identification of a gene called pushover (push), which affects both behavior and synaptic transmission at the neuromuscular junction [3].
Mutations in the Drosophila pushover gene confer increased neuronal excitability and spontaneous synaptic vesicle fusion [3].

Biological context of poe

We have cloned the DDB1 cDNA from the chicken B lymphocyte line DT40 and revealed an open reading frame of 3420 bp encoding a polypeptide of 1140 amino acids, which is identical in size to the orthologs of human, monkey, mouse, rat and Drosophila melanogaster in databases [4].
