The RAPTOR/KOG1 proteins are binding partners of the target of rapamycin (TOR) kinase that is present in all eucaryotes and plays a central role in the stimulation of cell growth and metabolism in response to nutrients [1].
An Arabidopsis homolog of RAPTOR/KOG1 is essential for early embryo development [1].
We show in this report that two genes are coding for RAPTOR/KOG1 homologs in the Arabidopsis and rice genomes [1].
RESULTS: AtRaptor1B, a plant Raptor homologue, binds the AML1 (Arabidopsis Mei2-like 1) protein in a yeast two-hybrid assay [2].
It acts through the phosphorylation of downstream effectors that are recruited to it by the binding partner Raptor [2].

To identify genes that regulate meristem-based growth, we considered homologues of Raptor proteins, which regulate cell growth in response to nutrients in yeast and metazoans as part of a signaling complex with the target of rapamycin (TOR) kinase [3].
