CDP-hexanolamine agarose was used as an affinity adsorbent to purify a CMP-N-acetylneuraminate: beta-D-galactosyl-glycoprotein N-acetylneuraminyltransferase (EC 2.4.99.1) from bovine colostrum [1].
A mechanistic study of rat liver alpha-(2-->6) sialyltransferase (ST) is presented that includes isotope trapping experiments and kinetic isotope effects on V/K for the ST-catalyzed reaction of isotopically labeled CMP-N-acetylneuraminate and N-acetyllactosamine [2].
Treatment of rat hepatocytes with 0.5 mM concentrations of uridine and cytidine results in increased cellular concentrations of UTP, UDP-sugars and CTP, whereas that of CMP-N-acetylneuraminate remained unchanged [Pels Rijcken, Overdijk, Van den Eijnden and Ferwerda (1993) Biochem. J. 293, 207-213] [3].
Increased glycosylation capacity in regenerating rat liver is paralleled by decreased activities of CMP-N-acetylneuraminate hydrolase and UDP-galactose pyrophosphatase [4].
The family includes class B beta-lactamase, glyoxalase II, arylsulfatase, flavoprotein, cyclase/dehydrase, an mRNA 3'-processing protein, a DNA cross-link repair enzyme, a DNA uptake-related protein, an alkylphosphonate uptake-related protein, CMP-N-acetylneuraminate hydroxylase, the romA gene product, alkylsulfatase, and insecticide hydrolases [5].
