Disease relevance of Estriol 3-sulfate

The high concentration of estriol-3-sulfate (E3-3S) in human breast cyst fluid has been confirmed in 14 women with multiple cysts [1].

High impact information on Estriol 3-sulfate

Estriol-3-sulfate (E3S) is present in human breast cyst fluid (BCF) in median levels of 8.7-10.4 nmol/L, yet is barely detectable in the serum (less than 0.034 nmol/L) [2].
In the cyst fluid, estriol-3-sulfate (E3-3S) was found in each of ten samples, the concentrations ranging from 240-4310 pg/ml [3].
Both cell lines produced about equal amounts of estriol-3-sulfate (9%) and a compound with properties of estriol-3-glucosiduronate (0.15--0.5%) [4].
The data suggest that E3S may originate via 16 alpha-hydroxylation of estrogen in the cyst and that elevated E3S levels may be indicative of a secretory epithelium [5].
Different estrogen-3-sulfates (estrone-3-sulfate, estradiol-3-sulfate, and estriol-3-sulfate) can provoke important biologic responses in different mammary cancer cell lines; there is a significant increase in progesterone receptor [6].

Biological context of Estriol 3-sulfate

The levels of progesterone receptors (PR [cytosol (Cy) and nuclear (N)] and estrogen receptors (ER) [cytosol and nuclear; occupied and unoccupied specific binding sites] were evaluated in the MCF-7 cancer cell line incubated with estriol (E3), estriol-3-sulfate (E3-3-S) or estriol-17-sulfate (E3-17-S) for 7 days in culture [7].
