These two isoforms are products of the same gene and are localized on human chromosome 1p31.3, as well as on mouse chromosome 4, close to the locus for the spontaneous mouse neuromuscular mutation clasper [1].
Faah gene rearrangements were excluded by Southern blot analysis of clasper DNA [2].
We have isolated the gene that encodes the neural-specific RNA binding protein HuD in the mouse (Elavl4), and have mapped its location to the mid-distal region of chromosome 4, close to the neurological mutant clasper [3].

Analysis of an SCH mapping panel and a mouse interspecific backcross panel has localized the Faah gene to the conserved syntenic region on mouse chromosome 4, close to the neurological mutation clasper [2].
