Disease relevance of PPA2

PPA2s are a diverse group of neoplasms, and a subset of PPA2 does show K20 reactivity, as would be expected in metastatic enteric carcinomas [1].
Cases were classified as Type I (mucinous) bronchioloalveolar carcinoma (BAC1); Type II (nonmucinous) bronchioloalveolar carcinoma (BAC2); conventional PPA with BAC1-like areas (PPA1); or conventional PPA with BAC2-like foci (PPA2) [1].

The human pyrophosphatase 2 gene (PPase-2) was mapped to chromosome 4q25 and the 1.4-kb mRNA was ubiquitously expressed in human tissues, with highest levels in muscle, liver, and kidney [2].
The novel enzyme, named PPase-2, was enzymatically active and catalyzed hydrolysis of pyrophosphate at a rate similar to that of the previously identified PPase-1 [2].
A full-length cDNA, PPA2 (Prunus persica H+-ATPase 2) and three partial cDNAs (PPA1, PPA3 and PPA4) for the plasma-membrane H+-ATPase from peach trees were isolated by reverse transcription (RT)-coupled rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE) polymerase chain reaction (PCR) [3].
