By in situ hybridization, BEC1 is detected in the CA1-CA3 pyramidal cell layers and the dentate gyrus granule cell layers of the hippocampus [1].
Northern blot analysis indicates that BEC1 is exclusively expressed in human brain, where the expression is concentrated in the telencephalic areas such as the cerebral cortex, amygdala, hippocampus, and striatum [1].
The small number or absence of QTL for BEC1, AFT, and NTR1 receptor density suggests that genetic variation for these traits is minimal in the IHAS/ILAS strains and/or the effect size of QTL for these traits is too small to be mapped efficiently in this sample of F(2) rats [2].
