Disease relevance of oxyR

High impact information on oxyR

  • To identify the region of OxyR that might contact RNA polymerase, we carried out alanine scanning and random mutagenesis of oxyR [3].
  • Overexpression of the oxyR gene in mammalian tumor cell lines protects them from hydrogen peroxide-induced cell death, and these cells are also highly resistant to the superoxide ion producing compound paraquat [1].

Biological context of oxyR

  • This transcriptional up-regulation was preserved in a strain with the DeltaoxyR::kan mutation, but it was abolished (ahpCF) or significantly reduced (oxyR and dps) in a strain with the rpoS::Tn10 mutation, potentially reflecting positive transcriptional regulation of the oxyR regulon by sigmaS [4].
