In the goldfish and chick retinas, all serotonin-immunoreactive amacrine cells (S1) were positive for phenylalanine hydroxylase [1].
The PAH activity in the supernatant increased to a maximum as L-phenylalanine concentration in the assay medium increased from 0.02 to 0.5 mM and 1.0 mM [2].
The PAH activity in liver supernatant was present at a low level in 11 d chick embryos and increased several fold between Days 15 and 17 to a maximum at Days 17 to 21 [2].
1. Birds were injected intraperitoneally with DL-p-chlorophenylalanine (p-CP), which is an inhibitor of phenylalanine hydroxylase, or saline one day before the experiment [3].
Tubular excretion of the label from PGE2, PGF2alpha, and 13,14-dihydro,15-keto-PGF2alpha was inhibited by probenecid, indomethacin, and PAH [4].

Associations of PAH with chemical compounds

The PAH was 10 times weaker as an inhibitor than probenecid and indomethacin [4].
