Disease relevance of Ucn3

High impact information on Ucn3

  • Urocortins (Ucns) show different affinities for binding to mCRFR2alpha: Ucn 3 binds mCRFR2alpha with approximately 11-fold lower affinity than Ucn 2, which displays an affinity similar to Ucn 1 (approximately 1 nm) [2].
  • In mice, centrally administered Ucn 1 and 2 stimulated colonic motility with lower potency than CRF, and Ucn 3 was inactive [3].
  • Ligands selective for the CRF(2) (frog urocortin 3, mouse urocortins 2 and 3) all accelerated tadpole metamorphosis [4].
  • In the present study we investigated the effect of CRF(2) receptor activation with urocortin III on airway smooth muscle tone in vitro and in an acute model of airway inflammation in mice [5].
  • Finally, the number of neutrophils retrieved by bronchoalveolar lavage after administration of bacterial LPS (LPS) was reduced by prior intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of urocortin III [5].

Associations of Ucn3 with chemical compounds

  • Injection of frog CRF, urocortin 1 or the CRF(2)-specific ligand urocortin 3 all produced significant, acute increases (by 2h) in plasma thyroxine concentration in prometamorphic tadpoles [4].
  • Cultured islets isolated from Ucn 3-null mice also secreted less insulin in response to high glucose concentrations [6].

Other interactions of Ucn3

  • Ucn-II and Ucn-III protect cardiomyocytes from I/R injury and reduce the percentage of infarct size:risk ratio in Langendorff perfused rat hearts exposed to regional I/R (P<0.001) [1].
