Here we develop a series of transposon-derived dominant mutants of Pes1, the mouse homolog of the zebrafish Pescadillo and yeast Nop7p implicated in ribosome biogenesis and cell proliferation control [1].
Increased expression of Pes1 causes transformation of mouse and human fibroblasts in culture (colony formation in soft agar) [2].
A single gene localized to chromosome 11 on the mouse genome encodes Pes1 [3].
Analysis of the predicted amino acid sequence of Pes1 found it to contain a BRCT domain, which has previously been found in several proteins involved in cell-cycle checkpoints and DNA repair [3].
