Disease relevance of Cyp8b1

Consistently, hypophysectomy protects the liver against induction by EE of serum bilirubin and alkaline phosphatase, two markers of cholestasis and hepatotoxicity and modulates the effects of EE on several genes involved in bile acid homeostasis (e.g., FXR, SHP, BSEP, and Cyp8b1) [1].

Fetal liver expression of key enzyme in bile acid synthesis, Cyp7a1, Cyp27 and Cyp8b1 was not affected by OCP or UDCA treatment [2].
The early (day 1) up-regulation of Cyp7a1, and Cyp8b1, together with the down-regulation of Cyp27, was consistent with an increased proportion of cholic acid versus chenodeoxycholic acid and a progressive recovery in total BAs secretion [3].
