Disease relevance of benzenesulfonylbenzene

  • The lesion recurred and, as granuloma faciale is amenable to dapsone (diphenyl sulfone), treatment with 100 mg daily resulted in rapid improvement, whereas reduction of the dose to 50 mg daily resulted in relapse [1].
  • A massive dose of 7.5 g of 4,4'-diamino, diphenyl sulphone (dapsone) taken as a suicide attempt in a patient on long-term therapy for tuberculoid leprosy resulted in permanent bilateral retinal necrosis, previously unreported side effect of this drug [2].
  • Finally one potent antibiotic producer was chosen having broad-spectrum activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and it was found to produce a diphenyl sulfone antibiotic [3].
  • The occurrence of erythema nodosum leprosum among leprosy patients treated with diamino diphenyl sulfone in an endemic area is not rare, unlike in the leprosy patients treated at Lagos University Teaching Hospital. Two Nigerian patients with this disease are described, in whom this rarity was seen [4].

Analytical, diagnostic and therapeutic context of benzenesulfonylbenzene

  • While the depression observed in the first and the third phase was found to be dose dependent, no significant correlation was noted between the DDS concentration and depression in PHA induced blastogenesis in the second phase [8].
