High impact information on Git1

  • Cat-1 is tyrosine-phosphorylated in growing NIH 3T3 fibroblasts, and its tyrosine phosphorylation is increased following cell spreading on fibronectin, decreased in cells arrested in mitosis, and increased in the ensuing G(1) phase [1].
  • Cat-1 and Cat-2 both bind to the COOH-terminal region of p85(Cool-1) and p85(Cool-2) but do not bind to p50(Cool-1) [1].
  • However, the pathogenicity was unaltered when the env gene is exchanged with Moloney MuLV, which uses the Cat1 receptor [2].
  • The positively charged nitroxide spin label, 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-piperidine-N-oxyl-4-trimethylammonium (Cat1), was encapsulated in two types of liposomes, phosphatidylserine/phosphatidylcholine (PS/PC) and phosphatidylserine/distearoylphosphatidylcholine/dipalmitoylphosphatidyl choline (PS/DSPC/DPPC) [3].
  • PS/PC liposomes interact predominantely with the plasma membrane of TB cells and release Cat1 continuously, whereas the majority of PS/DSPC/DPPC liposomes are taken into the cells intact via endocytosis [3].

Biological context of Git1

  • In order to avoid the complication of reduction of nitroxides in biological media during oxygen measurements, liposomes containing a water-soluble nitroxide, 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-piperidine-N-oxyl-4-trimethylammonium (Cat1), were used in studies of oxygen consumption by thymus-bone-marrow cells [4].
  • Measurements of cellular respiration using Cat1 contained in liposomes agreed well with the results obtained using free Cat1 [4].
