High impact information on blaTEM1

Sulphonamide resistance was primarily mediated by sul2 and sul3, tetracycline resistance by tet(B) and tet(A), chloramphenicol resistance by catA1, streptomycin resistance by strA and ampicillin resistance by blaTEM. blaCTX and blaCMY-2 were found in cephalosporin-resistant isolates [1].
It carried a conjugative plasmid, pINF5, on which a qnrS gene was detected in close proximity to a Tn3-like, blaTEM-1-carrying transposon [2].
Five plasmids containing blaTEM1-like genes were identified, ranging from 7 to 100 kb, four of which were self-transferable; one of these contained a class 1 sul1 integron with an aadA1a gene cassette [3].
In ampicillin-resistant strains, blaTEM genes located on plasmids and/or the chromosome were implicated [3].
Ampicillin resistance was confirmed to be encoded by the blaTEM gene located on the TnA transposon [4].

Biological context of blaTEM1

Among 10 isolates from different serotypes obtained from 1997 to 2002 that were resistant to ampicillin, two and five isolates harbored 42- and 63-kb R plasmids and identical DraI restriction enzyme digest patterns, respectively, and carried the blaTEM gene [5].
