Disease relevance of CMVs2gp1

High impact information on CMVs2gp1

  • The data are consistent with a model in which the RdRp binds to the stem-loop structure which positions the active site to recognize the 3'-terminal GU sequence for initiation of RNA synthesis by the addition of an A residue to VPg [2].
  • Using a cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) RNA-dependent RNA polymerase capable of replicating the satellite RNA in vitro, the 3'-terminal guanosine of the satellite (-) strand was shown to be an absolute requirement for satellite (+) strand synthesis [5].
  • Comparison of the kinetics of the CMV RdRp-catalysed RNA synthesis using as templates viral RNAs and satellite RNA, alone or in an appropriate mixture, showed that these RNAs competed with each other for RNA synthesis by the CMV RdRp [6].
