High impact information on Cldn3

  • In the pancreas, claudin 2 is only detected in junctions of the duct epithelia, claudin 5 only in junctions of acinar cells, whereas claudin 3 and 4 are in both [1].
  • This study investigates the effect in the rat of chronic CdCl2 intoxication (500 microg Cd2+/kg, daily i.p. injection for 5 days) on renal function and the changes in tight junction proteins claudin-2, claudin-3, and claudin-5 present in rat kidney [2].
  • Claudin-3 and claudin-4 were also co-expressed by some alveolar epithelial cells adjacent to type II cells [3].
  • Additionally, the tight junctional protein occludin had a shift in bands that correlated with functional changes (i.e., increased permeability) without significant change in expression of claudin-3, zonula occludens-1, or actin [4].
  • Though no changes in total protein expression were observed, nicotine treatment was associated with altered cellular distribution of ZO-1 and diminished junctional immunoreactivity of claudin-3 [5].

Associations of Cldn3 with chemical compounds

  • However, methanandamide-treated cells showed a 12-fold increase in claudin-5 expression and a 2- to 3-fold increase in claudin-3, consistent with the notion that specific changes in claudin expression levels may correlate with changes in alveolar epithelial barrier function [3].
